- Core Tenet
Inheriting the Taoist health-preserving concept of “complying with nature and maintaining longevity”, with “strengthening the foundation and consolidating the source, and enjoying long life and good fortune” as the core, the ritual is presided over by a Taoist priest to adjust the physical and mental aura of the blessed person and nourish the vital energy of life. It helps the blessed person abandon anxiety and impetuousness, establish the health-preserving concept of “complying with the timing of heaven and keeping the body and mind harmonious”, protect physical health and abundant energy, and realize the wish of longevity, good fortune, health and peace.
- Ritual Preparation
Choose an auspicious day conducive to health-preserving and blessing, such as “Shou Ri” (Longevity Day), “Man Ri” (Fullness Day), “An Ri” (Peace Day), and hold the ritual at Chen Shi (7-9 am) in the morning when yang energy is vigorous and vital energy is easy to nourish.
– Inform the presiding Taoist priest of the blessed person’s name, birth date (eight characters of birth) and health status (brief description) 3 days in advance to customize the exclusive longevity blessing text;
– Taoist priest’s preparation: Place the tablets of Antarctic Immortal and Supreme Lord Lao in the center of the altar; display excerpts from “Tao Te Ching” on health preservation and pine branches (symbolizing evergreen longevity) on the left; place a clean water bowl and longevity peaches (implying both longevity and good fortune) on the right; burn three sticks of agarwood in front of the altar to create a pure and peaceful health-preserving aura; observe precepts three days in advance and prepare the longevity mantra.
- Solemn Ritual Process
Presided over by the Taoist priest throughout the process, no on-site participation of the blessed person is required——
– Altar Setup and Worshiping Sages: The Taoist priest arranges the altar utensils, holds agarwood and bows three times to the two sacred statues, recites “Antarctic Immortal Longevity Mantra” and “Supreme Lord Lao Vitality-Nourishing Mantra”, prays for the dual blessing of longevity and vitality nourishment, and visualizes the spiritual light covering the blessed person’s body and mind;
– Burning Incense to Strengthen Vitality: The Taoist priest holds incense and walks around the altar three times, recites the vitality-strengthening formula “Incense burns to purify qi, vital energy is consolidated to keep the body peaceful, good fortune and longevity depend on each other, and years pass peacefully”, and visualizes the incense turning into vitality-nourishing qi to nourish the blessed person’s physical and mental aura;
– Wisdom Exposition: The Taoist priest selects the health-preserving excerpt “A violent wind does not last a whole morning, a torrential rain does not last a whole day” from “Tao Te Ching”, combines the Taoist health-preserving concept of “Tao follows nature”, recites and explains the essence of longevity and health preservation, and integrates it into the aura adjustment;
– Pine Branch Longevity Blessing: The Taoist priest places pine branches in front of the altar, sprinkles clean water on the branches gently, recites the blessing words “Pine branches are evergreen, longevity and good fortune are ever-lasting, body and mind are harmonious, vital energy is abundant” while sprinkling, and visualizes the vital energy of the pine branches being transmitted to the blessed person’s aura;
– Exclusive Blessing: The Taoist priest reads the longevity blessing text customized with the blessed person’s birth date, details the wishes for physical health, abundant vital energy and long life with good fortune, and visualizes the power of wishes nourishing the blessed person’s body and mind while reciting;
– Closing the Altar and Thanking Sages: The Taoist priest holds agarwood and bows three times to thank the two sacred statues, offers the blessed pine branches and longevity peaches in front of the altar, recites “The blessing is completed, longevity, good fortune and health are achieved; the sacred power protects, and it remains evergreen for years”, and the ritual is completed.
